The explosion of the world population is causing and increasing pressure on food production with big negative impacts on the environment and on land management. The increasing demand for traditional animal protein is
pushing the livestock production to its limit.
At RecyGen we propose rearing earthworms and insects with the highest standard of hygiene using quality organic substrates for the production of insect proteins with a quality equivalent or higher to the more traditional sources.
Insects and earthworms are dried, and then converted in a fine powder, mainly composed of fibers, Protein Meal and Insect Oil amongst other nutrients.
The integration of insects powder has multiple advantages:
- Protein Meal
- Proteins are part of the insects powder, bringing along all of their advantages as a high PDCAAS (Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score): mealworms scores 0.76, just below beef and
soybean (both averaging 0.92) but far above alternatives as pea flour (0.69) or even pea concentrated (0.72)
- Insect Oil
- Already including Insect Oil, insects powder has all of their advantages as a provider of both Essential Insect Oil (two of them are Omega-3 and Omega-6) and non-Essential Insect Oil. Mealworms and beef have amounts of
EAA (Essential Amino Acids) of similar range: 449 g/kg vs. 469 g/kg respectively
- Dried insects flour can be used as ingredients in many kind of diets and food, ranging from pasta to meat-substitutes steacks.
